How to Boil Eggs That Peel Easily

Boiling eggs seems simple, but achieving the perfect peel can be a challenge. Whether you’re making deviled eggs, egg salad, or just enjoying a hard-boiled snack, easy peeling is essential. Here are several methods to ensure your boiled eggs peel with ease.

1. The Classic Boiling Method

Ingredients:

  • Fresh eggs
  • Water
  • Ice (for ice bath)

Instructions:

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan or pot.
  2. Cover the eggs with water by at least an inch.
  3. Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
  5. Immediately transfer the eggs to an ice bath to cool for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Peel the eggs starting from the wider end, where there’s a small air pocket.

2. The Baking Soda Method

Ingredients:

  • Fresh eggs
  • Water
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • Ice (for ice bath)

Instructions:

  1. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water in the pot before boiling the eggs.
  2. Follow the same steps as the classic boiling method.
  3. The baking soda increases the alkalinity of the water, making the eggs easier to peel.

3. The Steam Method

Ingredients:

  • Fresh eggs
  • Water
  • Ice (for ice bath)

Instructions:

  1. Fill a pot with about an inch of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Place a steamer insert or basket into the pot.
  3. Add the eggs to the steamer in a single layer.
  4. Cover and steam the eggs for about 12 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
  5. Transfer the eggs to an ice bath to cool for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Peel and enjoy!
